REFLECTIONS

Experience
This semester has been a transformative journey into the world of typography. From exploring emotional expression through type to mastering text formatting and experimenting with custom type design, I’ve come to understand that typography is far more than just arranging letters—it is a disciplined blend of logic, aesthetics, and communication. Each project presented its own challenges, pushing me to look beyond visual appeal and dive into the structure and rationale behind type. I am deeply thankful to Mr. Max for fostering an environment where creative exploration was encouraged but guided by constructive, technical feedback. This module has given me a strong typographic foundation that will undoubtedly inform my design practice moving forward.

Observation
Throughout this course, I’ve learned that effective typography demands a designer’s full attention to nuance. Small tweaks in spacing, alignment, or weight can entirely shift a composition’s tone and clarity. It’s a discipline that trains both the eye and the mind. This detailed observation has become second nature to me—I now find myself analyzing type in everyday contexts with a new level of scrutiny and appreciation.

Findings
One of my biggest takeaways is that I have only scratched the surface of typographic creativity. While I’ve made clear progress, I also recognize areas where I can grow—particularly in generating more original, expressive typographic concepts. This course revealed just how powerful and diverse typography can be as a visual language. To build on this, I plan to study editorial design in more depth, drawing inspiration from printed media such as magazines and books to refine my sense of layout, hierarchy, and typographic voice. With continued practice, I hope to push my work further in both
creativity and clarity.
